Bougainville police gear up for security operations

By AUGUSTINE KINNA
POLICE on Bougainville are gearing up to provide security during the polling period.
Provincial police commander Cletus Tsien said security preparations were well underway and more than 400 police officers would be sent to all the polling booths on Bougainville.
Mr Tsien said police were looking forward to the elections and were committed to ensure that polling went smoothly.
“With the elections just around the corner, we are prepared to provide security measures to enable the smooth running of the election,” Mr Tsien said.
He said candidates had been conducting peaceful campaigns and there had not been any threats to disrupt the elections.
Mr Tsien said 162 regular police officers would be supported by 330 community auxiliary police during polling.
He said Bougainville police had also gone through a lot of pre-election training and were confident of providing adequate security during the elections.
Mr Tsien said Arawa and Buin police were preparing well with a lot of support from the community and youths.
“This election is not for the police or the candidates, but it is for us the people,” he said.
“Our future depends on how we cast our vote.
“Therefore, I am urging all voters to vote peacefully with good hearts because it is everyone’s business.”
