Central polling officials undergo two-day training

By HENRY MORABANG
POLLING officials in the Kairuku-Hiri electorate of Central province underwent a two-day training last Thursday and Friday at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex at Waigani in preparation for polling.
Provincial returning officer Edward Kila said that 140 officials were involved in the training.
The training was conducted for Hiri and Koiari polling officials, with similar training for Kairuku and Mekeo officials to be conducted today.
Mr Kila told The National that the training was aimed at educating polling officials on their roles and responsibilities during the elections and the limited preferential voting system.
He said in Central province alone, there would be 32 polling teams, which was a 100% increase from the last elections.
In 2002, there were only 16 polling teams that covered the whole province.
