MRDC denies K8million cheque claim

THE Mineral Resource Development Corporation has denied being responsible for the missing K8 million cheque that they had paid to the Southern Highlands provincial government.
“That Special Support Grant cheque was paid recently to the SHPG,” MRDC acting managing director Thomas Tanasu said in a statement.
“MRDC, through Petroleum Resources Kutubu Limited, recently paid the SHPG as beneficiary an equity dividend that relates to 2006 equity distribution which amounted to K5,753,622.
“MRDC does not manage the Special Support Grant and has no authority to make any payment in respect to the grants to SHPG.
“MRDC is not aware that the cheque is reported missing and is awaiting an official confirmation from the respective SHPG authorities to initiate further action.
“MRDC has notified the bank that a confirmation from MRDC would be necessary to clear the cheque on presentation to ensure that the funds are paid to the rightful recipient.”
Mr Tanasu made the statement to refute claims by Southern Highlands administrator William Powi that they did not receive the cheque after MRDC had released it.
