Varzin people give land to church

By VERONICA MANUK
THE people of Varzin in the Toma area of East New Britain province have handed over 3.67ha of land to the Catholic church for relocation of Paparatava Health Centre to Varzin.
The handover was done last Saturday in the presence of Governor Leo Dion, Gazelle MP Sinai Brown, church representatives and the people.
The relocation was done because the current health centre, which was built in 1960, had no space for expansion.
The Catholic church, East New Britain provincial government, and the people had established a strong partnership to relocate the health centre.
Mr Brown told the people that it was their idea to give land for relocation of the health centre, and urged all concerned parties to work together for the good health of the people.
East New Britain provincial government had already allocated K100,000 for the relocation of the health centre in its 2005 budget.
The day featured six events including handing over of the land title by Mr Brown to chairman of Tabaule Enterprise Vincent Toliman.
He then handed over the title for hospital land to Catholic church and was followed by the launching of a corn-milling machine, Coffee Industry Corporation management handing over a vehicle worth K100,000 to East New Britain Coffee Association, groundbreaking ceremony of the relocation of the health centre and Mr Dion giving Nganalaka land title to Maoraoro business group.
