Verave surprise with win over Rapatona

By HENRY MORABANG
VERAVE surprised the soccer fraternity when it upset Rapatona 3-1 in the Port Moresby premier men's soccer match yesterday at Bisini Oval 2.
It was two-goal hero Kila Golo who made the big difference in the frontline which kept Rapatona guessing at most occasion.
Golo received a good cross from the right flank after Rapatona backliner Tapas Posman failed to clear the ball which saw Verave striker push the ball pass goalkeeper Adrian Waleile.
Golo received good support from his co-striker Tau Winnie, Kulu Kema, Toi Kema and Karo Kapa to ensure the win the match.
Rapatona will have to blame themselves with the selection of its starting team against the fast Verave side.
Skipper Russel Inai as usual played his guts out. He received good support from his players such as Andrew Marampau Jnr, John Baulo, Lawrence Diau until replaced, Adolf Horris and Clinton Caleb.
Rapatona striker Ravu Habuka needs to trim down his weight to bring his former best to keep his position.
The former PNG youth striker was struggling to win the ball against the village boys from Verave area of Hula district.
Just before half time, Tapas Posman headed a classic goal when he connected a direct kick from Baulo to beat Verave goalkeeper to level the score 1-all just seconds before half time.
In the second half, Verave capitalised on Rapatona's slowness to recover in defence scored another goal through Golo.
He beat the Rapatona goalkeeper Waleilei who already commit himself in attack to score the second goal before co-striker Tau Winnie volleyed the ball over Waleilei' head to hit the back of the net to put the game out of reach.
Coach Scott Vavine gave credit to all his boys for sticking together.
Simultaneously on Bisini Oval One, Souths United repeated the same scoreline as last week when it thrashed B-Mobile 8-1.
Striker Kema Jack scored four goals while his frontline partner Frank Tulem collected double while midfielders Abraham Enoch and skipper Andrew Lepani scored one goal each to bring the tally to 8 goals to one.
On Saturday, University returned to Bisini Ground with a big three goals against young Guria side.
Herman Palo and Madang NSL import Niel Hans scored the double for the boys from Waigani campus and PS Rutz failed to convert their scoring chances fell short for a 1-all draw against Cosmos.
Cosmos came from behind to beat Momase 2-1. Goals by Junior Bonnie in the 64th and the 66th minute was enough to beat Momase boys. Momase only goal came from Felix Bondluk.
