Quarrel between poll execs worries hopefuls

By ELIZABETH MIAE
THE tussle over the positions of the assistant returning officer (ARO) and the returning officer (RO) for the Kagua-Erave electorate has left candidates contesting for the seat in the dark with no briefing as a lead up to the elections.
Elijah Yanda, a People’s Progress Party (PPP) candidate contesting for this seat, told The National that there was a scuffle on Sunday between the current RO Ambrose Pokane and the former RO Owen Lora when Mr Pokane tried to take office.
He also raised another concern that the 23 candidates contesting this seat had yet to receive their posters with polling only three days away.
“The Electoral Commissioner must appoint a new ARO and RO for the interest of the people of Kagua-Erave and leave these people to solve their disputes elsewhere,” Mr Yanda said.
He added that a similar problem occurred prior to the previous election which caused few problems and did not want the same thing to happen again.
Yanda had called on the disputing parties to sort out their differences.
