Deployment of troops for polls duties stalled by allowances query

By GABRIEL FITO
MORE than 200 security personnel in the Sandaun province will have to be paid first their election allowances before they could be inserted to their respective polling teams for election operations in the province.
The contingent, which comprises soldiers and police personnel including a mobile squad from Bulolo, had been camping in Vanimo since last Tuesday but had not been deployed yet because their allowances had not been paid yet.
Provincial police commander Chief Inspector Richard Molou yesterday expressed concern at the inability of the police headquarters to send the election allowances early so that they would be ready for operations when polling starts on Saturday.
“The contingent was supposed to be deployed on Saturday but because the allowances did not arrive, they stayed behind.”
They are living on generous donations from business houses such as Best Buy.
