Poro takes over the lead in LFA
LAE BISCUIT PORO took over as Lae
Football Association competition leaders after white-washing Puma
SVS 9-2 in a one-sided affair in the men’s premier (1) division
competition at LFA Park on Sunday.
The Papuan Compound boys proved to be a contender when they took
control midway through the opening half and never looked back.
They kept the lid tight, denying SVS PUMA scoring opportunities.
The two goals by SVS Puma, more or less consolations, were scored
in the dying minutes of play in the final half.
LFA general secretary Alex Tokey said he was impressed with Poro’s
performance, adding that they have taken over as the new
competition leaders at senior men’s point ladder with 24 points
after 10 games in round one of the competition at the weekend.
“We just played game 10 in round one and we still hand another
three more games before we complete round one of our competition.
We will not be playing any games ton Saturday due to the national
elections but normal competition will resume on Sunday,” Tokey
said.
“The Under 20 men’s and men’s premier 2 division will play their
competition during the school holidays from July 4 as wash out
games. I urged all of them to check on the draws. We should resume
our season proper competition on July 7-8,” he added.
Huon Chemical Tarangau are also on (24) and were separated by
percentage points, YMCA Tribes (20), Zilu Scientific West (18),
Boroko Motors Cosmos (18), City United (16), Blue Kumuls (16),
Marie (6), Barbarians (5), TISC (5), Buresong (4), Puma SVS (1),
Lae Builders Esso and Bugandi yet to register points on the board.
Tokey said they should complete all their round one games on July
23 and will proceed onto round two of the competition.
In other games City United upset Lae Builders Esso 4-0 in another
interesting game. United’s four goals came from Yanum brothers Ian
and Fagan and another two were scored by Peter Dennis and Labert
Dapal.
In the women division Bare annihilated PS Pondo 12-0 in a
one-sided affair.
