Rugby chief calls off weekend of matches in Lae

THE round 11 matches in Morobe Rugby Union were called off by the president Darren Bishop after clubs failed to furnish to the union some important papers.
Bishop said he had given written instructions to all clubs to furnish to the union the registered list of their players and their medical certificates.
He said all the clubs failed to adhere to this very important instruction and he had no choice but to call off the scheduled matches for round 11 on Saturday 23rd.
"I gave the letters the previous weekend and the clubs have no excuses in not meeting the insurance requirement," he said.
He said that the clubs must appreciate the fact that Supporters Club Rugby Union Morobe Inc. (SCRUM) has already paid the insurance, and all it required from the clubs to submit their playing list with the registration fee of K5 and medicals for all the players.
"I had no option but to call off the games because we do not want to be liable for any serious injuries that will be sustained by a player. It is now up to the clubs to get this cleared before we restart our competition," he said
An updated points ladder premier grade sees Vikings leading on 22 points, followed by Greyhounds (22), Unitech Reds (16), Hornibrook Harlequins (15), Bismarck Maritime Pirates (13) and Consort Royals (9).
In the A grade, Hornibrook Harlequins are leading on 28 points followed by Vikings (21), Consort Royals (18), Unitech Reds (17), Telikom Crows (14), Lae Tech Rams (13), Greyhounds (6), Bismarck Maritime Pirates (4) and Defence (1).
The points system for MRFU is four points for a win, bonus points are awarded for team scoring four tries or more and losing by less than seven points.
