Pirates on the loose

14B Pirates sounded a warning to other teams after upsetting competition leaders Kamkumung Crushers 16- 10 in A grade encounter in Lae Rugby Football League on Sunday.
The win has restored some lost prides after performing inconsistently in their last outings.
In other matches, Lae Biscuit Spiders edged out reigning premiers Lee Supplies Brothers 16-14, Lae Panthers beat 13A Milo Nestle Bulldogs 8-6 and Royals beat Magani 8-6.
In the reserve grade encounters, Brothers beat Spiders 12-10 while other games scheduled for the weekend were deferred to this week days due to timing factor.
Lae league executives Martin Surab and David Atua said teams were more disciplined now and playing better football, adding that this meant that Lae league could be heading to better things ahead.
They said that with the introduction of junior schoolboys league, many boys were keen to take the ownership of the competition and play with styles.
“Schoolboys league is progressing well in Lae. We have school children playing at their age group and every time during the SP Cup match we allow one match like U11 to play as curtain raiser.
“The format is okay and we expect to see a lot of improved performance and other developments”, the officials added.
