Four now on scholarship
FOUR junior rugby league players have
been selected under the Bombers scholarships programme to assist
them to develop their sporting and academic skills.
The four players are Frank Kagai, Mark Mexico, Toy Tela and
Kingston Pisep.
The official announcement of the scholarship was at halftime
interval of the SP Cup competition between Bintangor Goroka
Lahanis and LBC Bombers in Lae on Sunday.
The four junior players will receive K500 school fess subsidy from
Bombers and will have free access into all the Bombers game venues
in Lae and around the country.
Lae league secretary Martin Surab said the four junior players had
represented PNG at the World Youth up challenge in Russia in 2005
and played in the second curtain-raiser game in the second state
of origin game in Australia last month and were the future PNG
Kumuls prospect.
“The performance of the four players will be monitored both on and
off the field and also their academic performance at school to
ensure that they strictly followed a set of guidelines to meet
their scholarships criteria,” Surab said.
“They would not be caught in any illicit activities such as drugs
and alcohol abuse to become better players and shining examples to
other future potential junior players who will follow their foot
paths,” he said.
Surab thanked Bombers for the scholarships and acknowledge the
support and training provided by PNGRFL Northern Zone development
coordinator Steve Malum by grooming the junior players to become
better self discipline players later on in life.
