NDB partners with RD Tuna on fishery
projects
THE National Development Bank has
ventured into partnership deals with various private companies
to boost the activities of local farmers and fishermen.
NDB chairman William Lamur said Madang province would serve as
an example of how the provinces could benefit from the
partnership between NDB and the private sector.
Mr Lamur disclosed this at the recent launch of the lending
bank’s new name in Madang.
He said NDB will sign new credit scheme agreements for
commercial fishing and poultry raising with the provincial
administration and private sector partners RD Tuna Canners Ltd
and Bangui Bio Products Ltd.
“These schemes would greatly benefit Madang farmers and
fishermen.
“The schemes would be expanded if they proved successful with
initial funding of K2 million to the Madang people in addition
to the K1 million to be provided to oil palm farmers in Usino
Bundi, under the Madang Village Oil Palm credit scheme.
“The Madang village-based farmers and fisherman will receive K3
million from NDB to mark the launch … owing to the strong
partnership we now have with the Madang government,
administration and private sector partners including Ramu Sugar
Ltd for oil palm,” Mr Lamur said.
During the partnership launch, a new deal on fisheries and
poultry credit schemes was also signed between the NDB and RD
Tuna.
The cannery will support coastal fishermen by buying all their
catch at market price.
Vun Autentico, RD Tuna’s resident director who signed the
agreement, said RD Tuna will also help fishermen by supplying
them with ice, helping them in boat repair aside from assisting
them in remitting the money they owed to NDB.
He said the company would hold a six-month training programme
for local fishermen aimed at hastening the fishermen’s eventual
take- over of the boats which they acquired through credit.
