King prepared for Madang’s top post

THE race for the Madang provincial seat is a contest like no other.
Not only is sitting MP Peter Barter becoming the first politician in the country to retire from politics but two sitting MPs have decided to abandon the seats they currently hold to go for the one he has vacated.
Alois King is vacating the Madang open seat for the province’s top post, while Peter Yama is leaving the Usino/Bundi seat for the same target.
Whilst campaigning in the north coast of Madang, Mr King told thousands of voters that the contest was interesting as it presented individuals from all walks of life
for them to choose
from.
He said the new LPV system presented voters with three choices to make at the polls, unlike in the past, and this was also helping to ease tension and potential confrontation between candidates or their supporters.
“Among those of us running are the former chief justice Sir Arnold Amet, former governor Jim Kas, former administrator Nalon Der, former Education advisor John Bossi, former Works manager Daniel Mutram, Madang women’s council president Mary Kamang, and of course Yama and myself.
“For the two sitting members, one of them must lose for the other to win. I’ve campaigned for this seat for the last five years, and I believe I’ve presented my case and people are ready to elect me,” Mr King said.
He said it was really up to the people to decide, and he would accept whatever decision they made at the ballot.
“If you decide for me, I’m ready for the job. I’ve served my apprenticeship, and I’m prepared for the next challenge, should this be your wish,” he told the North Coast electors.
The area has between 20,000 and 30,000 eligible voters.
