Goroka cops off to SHP poll jobs

By CLIVE HAWIGEN
ABOUT 130 policemen and women in Goroka left for Southern Highlands province yesterday for peacekeeping duties starting Saturday.
Among them were six female officers who were as eager as their male counterparts to carry out poll duties in the province.
One of them, Sgt Judy Girua, said they were very excited and confident of doing their jobs effectively with their male counterparts.
She said although they were married with children, the call of duty as police officers “was paramount”.
She said their children and husbands understood the nature of their work during the elections.
Meanwhile, John Daviaga, field commander of the Southern Highlands operations, said Goroka police had been preparing for election duties since early this year and were confident of doing well.
He said he was very happy to be leading a contingent which included female officers.
Mr Daviaga said they would be deployed to the Southern Highlands for about two weeks.
