Alotau hopeful bats for youth welfare

THE Government should place more emphasis on youths, Alotau open candidate and women’s right advocate Matilda Pilacapio said.
Such a move, she said, would solve the law and order problems faced by the country.
“Youths are building up in every town and we are sitting on a time bomb. I disregard law and order in my policies and place more emphasis on youths,” she said.
She said in Milne Bay alone, there were more opportunities available and she would include youths in agriculture, boat building, and fishing.
Forty-eight candidates are contesting the seat, five of them women.
Ms Pilacapio urged the National Aids Council to change its approach in tackling the HIV/AIDS threat.
She said youths who were not occupied tend to turn to drugs and other illegal activities which made them vulnerable to AIDS.
She also promised to help create credit facilities for women to start small projects for themselves.
“Small family businesses is the way to go and should be encouraged,” she said.
