Barracks still not shipshape

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
GRAFFITI on buildings and overgrown grasses can still be seen at the Gordon’s police barracks in Port Moresby despite Deputy Police Commissioner (operation) Geoffrey Vaki’s directions for a cleaner living quarters for police officers.
Mr Vaki early this month launched his clean-up tour of the city’s barracks at Gordon and told the residents to remove graffiti, cut grasses, not to sell betelnuts and ordered them to hold work parades every Saturday as of June 9.
The National yesterday noticed graffiti on buildings and overgrown grasses at the entrance of the barracks during a visit.
However, police media director Superintendent Dominic Kakas denied that residents had relaxed after Mr Vaki’s visit.
“The resident are cleaning up the place and there are now no selling of betelnuts there. Generally, they are starting to close in on Mr Vaki’s expectation.”
Mr Kakas said the residents would remove the graffiti once funds for detergents become available.
