PNGTA official on sex charges

By ALISON ANIS
POLICE yesterday confirmed charges of rape and sexual harassment against PNG Teachers Association Southern regional secretary Ugwalubu Mowana.
Mr Mowana is due to appear for hearing at the Waigani district court tomorrow on charges of allegedly raping a female junior staff of PNGTA last September.
A police officer with Boroko CID unit yesterday confirmed that Mr Mowana was out on a K500 bail after he was arrested on March 27 on charges of rape.
He said Mr Mowana first appeared at the committal court for mention on March 28, a day after his arrest.
The officer confirmed that Mr Mowana was again arrested last Friday for threatening and interfering with state witness and was later released on bail of K100.
But Mr Mowana has denied his involvement in sexual harassment and raping of a female junior staff of PNGTA.
When contacted by The National newspaper after receiving reports of allegations into rape which reportedly took place last September in his office, Mr Mowana said he was “totally unaware of anything”.
“I am not aware of anything to that extent and if it was anything that serious, I have nothing to do with it,” Mr Mowana said, adding that any further queries should be raised with his lawyer Jeffery Geno.
