Komiti petition set for hearing tomorrow

By JOSHUA ARLO
AN election case filed by Peter Komiti, candidate for the Kompiam Ambum open seat, will go on trial tomorrow.
Yesterday, the court was informed that Mr Komiti’s counsel had yet to comply with directives made last Friday.
Counsel David Tambili also failed to turn up for his client’s case, prompting National Court judge Justice Mark Sevua to set the case for trial.
Justice Sevua said that it was Mr Tambili’s problem if he was not in court as he would proceed with the hearing.
“The reason for rushing this matter was clear because polling begins on Saturday,” he said yesterday.
Mr Komiti was claiming foul play during the up-dating of the current common roll where over 7,000 ghost names were entered.
He is seeking court orders for the Electoral Commission to use the preliminary roll.
In another election-related case that had also been set for trial, Kandep open seat candidate Peter Mision claimed Deputy Prime Minister Don Polye did not nominate and should be removed from the ballot.
