Rawali dismisses illegal ballot paper claims

By SENT TIMBI

THE election manager of Western Highlands province has brushed aside allegations from some provincial seat candidates about 100,000 illegal ballot papers being flown to the province on a chopper for use in the coming election.
Kala Rawali said there were rumours going around that a candidate smuggled in 50,000 ballots papers for Anglimp/South Waghi open electorate and 50,000 ballot papers for the provincial seat.
However, he said on Monday it was just an allegation and there was no hard evidence to prove it.
He made the comments after deputy governor Wai Rapa, who is also a candidate for the provincial seat along with other 11 candidates, made the allegations last Friday at the Electoral Commission’s office at the provincial headquarters building.
The candidates also claimed that deputy provincial administrator Leo Meninga was not a public servant.
