Kyakas: Claims of missing ballots untrue

ENGA provincial elections manager Henry Kyakas has dismissed claims that 4,500 ballot papers and nine ballot papers for Wapenamanda electorate in Enga disappeared while on transit to the Wabag police station.
He said they had been held back in Port Moresby by the Electoral Commission because the printer had oversupplied.
He was responding to claims by Wapenamanda Open member Miki Kaeyok that five of the ballot boxes along with ballot papers for the regional seat, three for Wabag Open and one for Kombiam-Ambum Open had been hijacked somewhere between Mt Hagen and Wabag last week.
Mr Kaeyok made the claim after electoral officers counted the boxes and ballot papers at the Wabag police station, in the presence of other candidates and security personnel.
He said the missing ballot papers numbered 54001 to 58501.
He called on the police to investigate and to file criminal charges against those responsible.
Mr Kyakas told The National that everything was in order and advised candidates not to jump to conclusions.
