Kingsley hands Sisiak 2 titles

By KEVIN PAMBA
MEMBER for Madang Open Alois Kingsley yesterday delivered titles to land for settlers at Sisiak 2 settlement outside Madang town.
Mr Kingsley, who is running for the Madang Regional seat, had sought the titles on behalf of 243 families from the Department of Lands and delivered some of the titles during a ceremony at Sisiak 2 yesterday afternoon.
The land titles have been a long-standing issue for the settlers of mainly East Sepik origin, who have fought for it since the 1970s and some of their elders have died without receiving the titles.
The MP told the settlers that Sisiak was where he grew up and had a strong affinity for it and was compelled to get the titles of the land blocks on behalf of the residents.
Mr Kingsley said this was to ensure security for the block-holders from any fear of eviction or complaints over landownership.
He said what he wanted was security among the settlers so that they could live in peace and go to work and raise their children and send them school.
Mr Kingsley also announced that now that he had brought them the land titles, he would build them permanent houses when voted in as governor of Madang.
“The land title is mine and I will build houses for you on the registered land.”
Mr Kingsley said he would provide the materials and the block holders have to find carpenters to build their houses.
