Death causes tension in Wewak

By GABRIEL FITO
THERE is tension in East Sepik following the death of a campaign manager for Wewak Open MP Kimson Kare.
Camillus Sokondai died at the Boram Hospital where he was admitted after sustaining serious injuries.
He was allegedly attacked by supporters of another candidate early this week.
Mr Kare’s campaign coordinator Mr Kevin Wunduagen told The National yesterday that Mr Kare and his team were at Wom campaigning when supporters of another candidate shouted abuses at the Member and hit the deceased with an unidentified object when he attempted to stop them from misbehaving.
Mr Wunduagen said Mr Sakondai fell backwards when he was hit and his head hit the road hard, causing serious wounds.
He was rushed to the Wewak General Hospital where he fought for his life for almost 36 hours before he died at 12.30pm on Wednesday.
Mr Sokondai was from Ambukanjai village, Yangoru, but had been living at Yarapi village outside Wewak.
Mr Wunduagen has appealed to police in Wewak to have the suspects arrested quickly to ease tension.
