Navy helps with security in WNB

By ELIZABETH VUVU
A PNG Defence Force naval boat with a crew of 18 docked in Kimbe this week and will be helping out with security during the elections.
PNGDF Kimbe liaison officer Lt-Col Peter Baki said the patrol boat arrived in Kimbe on Wednesday from Manus, and yesterday began transporting police personnel to Bali-Vitu, Cape Gloucester, Kandrian and Gasmata.
Lt-Col Baki said this was the first time for West New Britain to receive military assistance during an election.
He said the presence of military personnel would deter people from causing trouble during the elections.
The boat and its crew will come under the direction of provincial election steering committee chairman Robert Dau.
It will be stationed on the south coast of West New Britain and will help to bring back ballot papers and boxes from Gasmata, Kandrian, Cape Gloucester and Bali-Vitu.
