Proper voting urged in ENB

By VERONICA MANUK
PEOPLE of East New Britain have been urged by the provincial election steering committee to vote properly and not to waste time during voting.
The committee comprising chairman Clement Irasua, election manager Abraham Wari and committee members Camillus Palo and Danley Puapena went on Radio East New Britain yesterday for an awareness talk before polling begins tomorrow.
The team told the people that they should vote properly by putting 1, 2 and 3 next to their preferred candidates to make their votes formal.
Those illiterate and not familiar with the limited preferential voting should seek help from relatives and the presiding officers.
Mr Irasua said people should be at the polling area on the right day and time.
He said that during mock elections, each voter took three to four minutes to cast his or her vote, and it was estimated that in one day 150 people would vote.
Mr Irasua that in wards with many voters, the polling team would have to put up extra voting booths as well as allow extra time to people to vote.
This means that even if voting ends at 6pm, people will be given extra time to vote.
Mr Irasua said counting would begin on July 10, starting at 8am and ending at 6pm.
He said counting would be broadcast live and urged people to stay at home and listen to the radio in comfort.
