Morobe imposes liquor ban

By FRANK RAI
MOROBE province has declared a month-long liquor ban effective today.
The ban was issued by Morobe administrator Manasupe Zurenuoc, who said that police would be patrolling and monitoring all areas known for beer outlets.
Mr Zurenuoc said liquor consumption had been one of the contributing factors to violence during election where there had also been reports of intimidation and bribery.
He said the ban would help minimise these problems, allowing people to vote freely.
Mr Zurenuoc said during the ban period police would question those who were caught drunk or drinking and would also go after outlets that supplied the alcohol.
He said those who violated the ban would be penalised.
