Women soccer captures attention of Oceania body

Oceania Football Confederation is now collaborating with PNG Football Association to develop the code in the region.
In the a positive step for soccer development, OFC’s head of Women’s Football in the region Connie Selby will be in the country to run Women’s Junior/Youth Coaching Certificate Course from July 9 to 14.
This course is part of the OFC’s programmes to develop women’s football in the region where women will be given the opportunity to coach their own teams and not only playing and also to take up coaching as their career in life in football.
Targeted groups in this course are young women, teachers, practiscing coaches in the PMSA, PSSA, Gerehu and Kaoupa Soccer Associations.
Selby said from Auckland OCF Head Quarters that the courses are accredited programmes under the auspices of OFC Coach Accreditation Scheme.
She said that the main aim of the course is to provide club coaches and school teachers with knowledge and competency to prepare structures and organize suitable development practices for junior players.
Meanwhile, PNGFA is calling all interested women participants to call the PNGFA/OFC office in Port Moresby to register their interest to participate in the course through phone numbers 323 1889 or 323 1956.
All participants are expected to pay a registration fee of K25 prior to the course and others outside of Port Moresby who want to take part in the course are advised that they will be responsible for their transport and accommodation.
Elections priority
The Port Moresby Rugby league domestic competition will be postponed next week for officials, players and supporters to cast day votes for the general elections.
POM Rugby League chairman Solomon Ravu confirmed this and assured that this was planned for and it wont affect the domestic competitions as players, match officials, security guards and the supporters will exercise their right to vote next Friday and Saturday (July 6-7).
Ravu said that the delayed matches will be slotted on the later during the week bu said the round twelve clash of the SP Cup match between the city franchise Brain Bell Bulldogs and highlands franchise Bintangor Lahanis would still go ahead as scheduled.
He said that the SP Cup game between Bulldogs and Lahanis that will be played on Sunday will not be affected as voting will happen only on Friday and Saturday as scheduled and endorsed by the Electoral Commission for Moresby North-East Open, Moresby Northwest Open and Moresby South Open electorates.
