The path
By Notuda-Kaera John

I see her in the distance
Not far off
Keys and case in hand
Head held high
Steady, confident strides
There’s no stopping her
Moving up levels
Till she hits the top
I turn and look back
I see her yesterday
The pain and struggle
Through those mountains
And deep valleys
It’s all history now
As I see myself
Walking the path
Of the one I saw
Walking in the distance

Promiscuous
By David Soroda

Could have been magic
I swear it
Here we are
So close
Yet daring to touch
As if the other were china

Whispers, soft
Careless
Hmmm
We could almost be miming

Your breathing pulsate the air once more
The telephone episode
Those jingles of flirtations
And sordid ambitions
The blind leading the blind
These are the very echoes
We chose not to ignore

Among the field of buttercups
I pick one
And chose you
She loves me! She loves me not! She loves me!
The petals flick off...
Oh Ell’e...
Do you believe in fairytales too?

Debt crisis
By Messery Gubag

The sea of debt engulfs me
As I struggle to stay afloat
With my creditors I plea
Come this Friday I’ll pay out

Friday comes I’m at the club
My heart races as numbers tumble
Almost full house but just missed out
One more bet, this time I double

Two more brownies over here
To help me play with more glee
It went so fast I missed it all
So I stagger out to save what’s left

Awake at last it dawns on me
It’s all at the club my pay
My hand gropes my pocket searching
To bring out nothing but silver coins

Come Monday I am a fugitive
My lender’s path I dare not cross
My debts have grown in leaps and bounds
I loathe myself but I can’t stop

Would I ever
By James St Nativeson

The wind is swift
Far stormier than other
Tempests from the West

For a hundred and fifteen
Years, it kept you astir
At times uncertain and unsteady
Even abandoned and forgotten
But how shall I ever forget you
Pem and Tototo -
Most revered elders of learning
For Cape Vogel and Raba Raba?

Even if it cost the West millions
And even if it took me a minute
To deny you, Pem and Tototo
I would never leave you!
So know that... yes, one day
Ana veramaga!
