Lae humbled by Rabaul Gurias

By ELIZABETH VUVU
AGMARK Gurias have maintained their consistency at home by accounting for Lae Bombers 18-6 in wet condition yesterday.
The Round 12 SP Cup match at Kalabond field got off to a slow start in the first 20 minutes with a lot of loose balls from both sides.
Three minutes before halftime, Gurias scored the first try through Ricky Sibiya after a good set up play by Frank Jim to put the host in front 4-nil. The conversion was unsuccessful and the score remain at 4-0.
A few minutes after the first try, Rolly Matalau scored another try for Gurias after he was set up by George Baker. Sibiya collected the extras to lead 10-0.
In the second half, Bombers centre Ben Joel opened the scorebook with a try which was not converted.
However, a few minutes later Matalau intercepted a Bombers pass as they were looking dangerous to score a try 5 metres from the Guria's end and ran the full length to score his second try which Sibiya failed to convert but they led 14-4.
The Bombers replied with a penalty kick to narrow the scoreline.
In the next few minutes, Sibiya took advantage of a loose ball by Bombers and chip-kicked for Frank Jim to scoop and score his second try to lead 18-6.
Again Sibiya failed to convert but the final hooter signaled full time
Agmark Guria's coach Michael Marum commended his forwards- Channel Aquila, Rodney Pora and George Baker for their persistency in maintaining good defence at the front.
He said his team was ready for Round 13 in Port Moresby against the Brian Bell Bulldogs.
