Rapatona, University on top in women soccer

By HENRY MORABANG
ARCHRIVALS Rapatona and University maintained their spot on the Port Moresby womenís premier soccer competition ladder with wins over their respective opponents at the weekend.
Leaders Rapatona defeated the former glamour team Lamana 3-1 while University hammered struggling PNG Gardener 3-0. PNG striker Deslyn Siniu started to roll the
scorebook with her lone goal in the 37th minute and a minute later Priscilla Caleb, who is making a comeback, slotted the second goal to put Rapatona in front. Lamana scored their only goal but could not resist the continued raid from Rapatona resulting
in Caleb scoring her second goal of the afternoon in the 59th minute to take out the game. University on the other hand proved that they are serious finals contenders when striker Tokoi Norrie scored the trifecta to keep pace with the competition leader, Rapatona. The Julie Alau-led team Telikom thrashed Markham Yarangs 6-0 in front of their number  one supporter and the Police Commissioner Gary Baki who was on a weekend break while Guria shook off Naniu 4-0. Telikom and Guria now joined the early leaders to complete the top four while Lamana, who started off well, fell
to fifth spot to head the bottom four teams which are made up also of PNG Gardener, Naniu and Markham Yarangs. Flanker Shanty Moiyap and striker Helen Baki collected
the doubles while Patricia Logh and Julie Alau contributed one goal each for a 6-0 trout against the more-like village team, Yarangs. Despite the attempts
by Monica Biko, Agnes Pinoko, Olive Pinoko, Kyan Parker, Sabina Gorea and Dorothy Jabi, Markham Yarangs were never competitive and really lost the plot of the football match. The points ladder as of last weekend Rapatona 28, University 28,
Telikom 27, Guria 27, Lamana 19, PNG Gardener 14, Naniu six and
Markham Yarangs as tailenders with five points.
