Despite Digicel, Telikom mobile base still growing

DESPITE Digicel’s forthcoming entry into the local mobile phone business with a promise of better and cheaper service, Telikom seems to continue attracting new subscribers.
In fact, the company has disclosed a “strong growth” in its mobile users, which are about 200,000.
Telikom’s B Mobile service recently noted more than two million mobile phone calls were now successfully connecting across the country on the busiest day of each week, Friday.
The telco also revealed a call dropout rate of only 1% being monitored, which is very acceptable at international rate that was detected through its digital monitoring of the network
Telikom attributes the rapid growth in use of the mobile network to the increase in number of mobile customers now on its network, approaching 200,000.
Also contributing to the growth is the wide spread of the Telikom mobile network, with 62 mobile base stations now stretching from Daru to Arawa and Aitape to Alotau.
When all the base stations presently under installation are turned on, there will be a network of 104 servicing almost every corner of the country.
“There has been no downturn in the number of new subscribers taking up a Telikom SIM card, which offers mobile roaming, international SMS, post-paid billing and several other features, as well as very wide coverage nationwide,” Peter Loko, the acting CEO, said.
