Bad weather delays Goilala voting

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK

EIGHT polling teams have not been deployed to their respective areas in Goilala, Central province due to bad weather, Goilala returning officer Jimmy Aniawa said yesterday.
“But we are hopeful the weather would be fine soon so they could be deployed before Saturday.
“Saturday is the end of the extended polling period and today (yesterday) is the official close of polling.
“Two teams were supposed to go to the Goilapu-Kamulai, Pilipi-Zarimrop areas in Guari along the borders of the Gulf, Morobe and the Central provinces.”
Mr Aniawa said six teams were supposed to cross Mt Victor for Yongae, Fane, Tolukuma, Ononge, Sirime in Auga-Dilava valley within the Woitape along the borders of Central and Oro provinces.
These areas are very remote, being in mountainous areas of the district where the cloud cover was always heavy.
“Helicopters cannot travel in such situation … these teams were still stuck at Tapini and Woitape stations.
