COUNTING for the Madang open
seat is expected to start on Friday after delays caused by problems in
logistics and bad weather.
Because of this, election in the province had been extended for another
five days from today.
Provincial police commander Chief Inspector Anthony Wagambie Jr said
yesterday they were only awaiting one polling team at Nagada and another
two at Seruga and Matepi inland in Transgogol to complete the voting.
“Polling started late because of bad weather but was extended for five
days … we expect Madang to be completed this afternoon (yesterday) or
tomorrow (today) … counting will start on Friday,” he said.
He said Bogia open was completed and polling teams were waiting to be
moved by helicopter yesterday.
Some teams were supposed to be shuttled by chopper but had to go on foot
because the aircraft was undergoing service.
For the Middle Ramu open seat, all teams along the Ramu River had
completed polling, with only Josephstall being left behind schedule but
it was expected to complete voting by Friday.
Another eight teams were still polling in Simbai and were expected to
complete the job today.
The Sumkar open electorate teams at Karkar were waiting to be flown to
Talidik to have the ballots officially counted.
Polling had also been completed in both Rai Coast and Usino-Bundi.
Counting for open seats would take place at district stations while all
ballot boxes for the regional seat would be taken to the Holy Spirit
Open church hall for canvas.
