Sir Mekere, Dame Carol Kidu, Powes Parkop leading


MORESBY Northwest MP and PNG Party leader Sir Mekere Morauta has maintain a comfortable lead since counting started in the three open seats in the National Capital District.
The former prime minister, after count 12, is leading with 2,853 votes.
He was followed closely by independent Dickson Soto Micka with 1,368, People’s Action Party’s Roman Wara 418 and People’s Democratic Movement’s Miria Ikupu with 416 votes.
The total allowable ballot papers after count 12 was 5,956, with 171 informal votes totalling 6,127.
The count 1-12 covered ballot boxes from Murray Barracks, Burns Peak, Hohola and Tokorara.
In Moresby South, sitting MP Dame Carol is leading with 1,030 votes after count seven.
She was closely followed by PNG Conservative Party candidate George Lavari with 624, Pangu’s Justin Tkat-chenko on 592 votes and Mary Karo with 247 votes.
Count seven covered ballot boxes from Taurama, Taurama Barracks, Kilakila settlement and Mahuru village.
For the regional seat, lawyer Powes Parkop is leading with 354 votes after count three, followed by sitting MP Wari Vele with 217 votes, and businesswoman Janet Sape trailing with 127 votes.
