CENTRAL provincial returning officer Gei Raga said yesterday that
polling in the province will be completed by Friday and counting will
begin at the weekend.
Mr Raga told The National that counting for Kairuku-Hiri and Rigo
electorate would be held at Murray Barracks Warehouse B, Abau electorate
at the Murray Barracks area theatre and Central at the gymnasium.
Goilala electorate counting will be held at Goldie Barracks.
Mr Raga said he was hiring tables and chairs from tertiary institutions
for about 164 counting officials, who would be divided to work on day
and night shifts.
He said most Central provincial public servants would be engaged in
counting together with the teams that carried out polling.
Mr Raga said polling in Goilala was the slowest, where polling teams
were still to be dispatched to other locations from Tapini.
He said this was carried out on Monday and yesterday by the Islands
Nation Air helicopters and polling was being carried out.
Mr Raga said Rigo inland was still incomplete as well.
Both Goilala and Rigo inland polling teams were reaching areas that
cannot be accessed by roads.
Mr Raga said polling in Aroma Coast and Cloudy Bay and Aroma were
expected to be completed yesterday.
He said despite bad weather and logistics, polling got underway in most
parts of Central, and he expected completion on Friday with no major
problems.
