Jeff Wade must go, says Siwi

By ZACHERY PER
GOROKA rugby league president Pat Siwi has called on the PNGRFL board to sack league administrator Jeff Wade over alleged inconsistencies in running of the SP Cup rugby league competition.
Siwi made the call in Goroka this week after Wade failed to address the security concerns of the Bintangor Lahanis players to travel the Highlands Highway to Wabag, Enga province, to play Toyota Mioks.
Siwi said PNGRFL’s highlands based officer Joe Tokam has provided a brief to Wade following a thorough assessment recommending Wade not to allow Lahanis to travel to Wabag by road to play in Wabag because the playing field was in bad condition.
The Aipus Johnson Siki rugby league ground in Wabag has not hosted a single SP Cup match this year and the Mioks has been hosting a number of games in Porgera.
“Wade’s insistence on the Lahanis to travel to Wabag via Chimbu and Western Highlands provinces posed high security threat on the Lahanis players and management,” Siwi said.
He said in the light of without due consideration of the safety of players and management of Lahanis, Wade should be sacked immediately for attempting to bring the league in the country into disrepute.
When contacted yesterday Wade said, “What’s so special about Lahanis?” He did not elaborate.
