Lahanis’ refusal justified

IF you think it was very embarrassing to read about the Bintangor Goroka Lahanis’ refusal to play against Enga Mioks (The National, July 9), think again.
A board member of the Mioks insulted the Lahanis by saying that they (Lahanis) liked to be served on a golden plate and they behaved as if they were the only special semi-professional team.
The PNGRFL CEO Jeff Wade also said that it was all about taking risks. But I beg to differ.
With the elections going on, was it safe for the Lahanis or any team to travel along the Okuk Highway and play in Wabag?
I refer to the July 9 paper again. On page 3 was a news article titled “Road block in Wabag” where commuters had their belongings taken by armed gunmen.
This incident was confirmed by the assistant police commissioner Francis Tokura.
He said that every time he deployed his men there, the armed men disappeared and reappeared when his men returned to Wabag.
Is such risk worth taking, Jeff Wade?
Is this what you call special treatment, Mioks?

Truave,
Madang
