Candidate alleges corrupt practice

GULF Regional candidate Sam Wenive has made allegations of foul play and vote-rigging by certain candidates and their supporters in this year’s general election.
Mr Wenive also made claims of poor administration by the Electoral Commission in the whole electioneering process in the province.
Mr Wenive said he went to raise these concerns at the PNG Electoral Commission headquarters in Port Moresby on Monday but he was told there was no one around to attend to him.
He also complained that he called the election hot line telephone number 180 2090 twice, on Monday and yesterday.
Mr Wenive said in the light of these and other “anomalies and discrepancies” the Electoral Commission could not say the elections in Gulf province were “fair, democratic and legal”.
“Thousands of people, especially in the inland areas of the province, were denied their constitutional right to vote,” he said.
