Mioks confident of victory against
Gurias
By PETER PIA
Toyota Mioks are ready to meet Agmark Gurias of the round 14 SP
Cup clashed in Kokopo in thriller this Sunday.
After their forfeit win against Bintangor Lahanis last weekend,
Mioks now share second spot with Gurias, Lahanis and Wari Vele
Raiders on 16, a point shy of leaders Brian Bell Bulldogs on 17
points.
The Mioks/Gurias match would be a do-or-die encounter as both
teams go in full swing to secure top four positions.
Team manager Richard Yallon knows well what kind of techniques to
apply to dispose the Guriasí free-flowing ball work at their home
ground.
Yallon said yesterday in Wabag that Mioks were ready after beating
Warriors 23-17 a fortnight ago in Mount Hagen and the forfeit win
last weekend gave them much confidence. Also, many injured players
have recovered and were available to choose from.
Yallon and coach Itam said they were confident of a tough game
against Gurias, adding their boys were preparing for that game as
one of their grand final matches.
They said Kumuls five-eighth Stanley Tepend would call the shots
at the backline to cause havoc for the Tolai men. He will be
assisted by rising star halfback Samuel Maniat, Jeffery Maino,
Jason Desmond, Iki Yallon, Stanley Tondop and Luke Minijiku.
The forward pack will have Kumuls forward and captain Leo Kondai
and colleagues Nathan Anjo, Albert Imu, Danny David, James Emm,
and lock forward Ereakali Kandapol.
“We are preparing for that game against Gurias. Gurias lost their
last match Bulldogs 28-18 and they will come strong so we won’t
take them easily. My boys are ready. Gurias will have home ground
advantage but we know how to overcome that and win,” coach Itam
said.
However, Gurias coach Michael Marum is expected to work on the
weaknesses in Bulldogs/Gurias match and he may have a different
game plan to take the Mioks head on.
