Coach Gusmao confident of second PNG win in Honiara

A PATRIOTIC crowd is expected to converge onto Lawson Tama Football Stadium to witness one off friendly international matches between two Melanesian neighbours, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands this afternoon in Honiara.
PNG coach Gusmao Marcos is confident that PNG will give Solomon Islanders a good run for their money.
Coach is likely to field the same line-up that beat O-League bound and the newly crowned Solomon Islands champion, Kossa 2-1 on Wednesday.
The two overseas-based players Alex Davani and Mauri Wasi are likely to be included in the starting team after their sterling performance which help PNG win the opening encounter.
Solomon Islanders will be without their four overseas-based players for this match, however, they have made themselves available for the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
The high profile players include Henry Fa’arado Jnr plays in the Victorian League in Melbourne, George Suri, Stanley Waita and New Zealand League golden boot winner Benjamin Totori who returned to Auckland last week to play in the Winter league competition.
PNG team would want to rewrite the history by winning this match against Solomon Islands. The last time PNG beat Solomon Islands senior national men’s team was in 1978 in Honiara during the Independence Day celebration.
