University keen to overcome heavier Defence union pack

PORT Moresby rugby union’s reigning champions and current undefeated competition leaders University believe the games from now on will be much tougher as teams start hitting form to qualify for the finals.
University have been the form side all season recording nine victories and two 19-19 draws against Harlequins (week 10) and the Kone Sharks (week 15) but with this week’s announcement of a shortened season, all teams will be hungrier to win.
University will take on fourth-placed Defence who will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s narrow loss to Harlequins at Bava Park.
University coach John Pangkatana said this week Defence have a huge forward pack but their main danger lies in the backs who have shown great attacking form in the past couple of matches.
Indication of Defence potent backline attack was prevalent last week with Junior Mesea, Richard Brendan, Boniface Aruma and Graham Sakora continually threatening Harlequins defence through broken field counter attacks.
“Defence are a tough side to play at any time and especially now that they have new uniforms they will definitely play with a bit more enthusiasm than usual,” he added.
In the other premier division matches tomorrow, Kone Sharks will take on Wanderers while Brothers will meet the Southern Chiefs.
Harlequins will be on bye this week.
