Sam leads bombing raid on former team

By SAMPSON BONAI
FIVE-EIGHTH Andrew Sam led LBC Bombers to a convincing 32-12 victory over his former team Toyota Mioks 32-12 in the main game of the double header held at Lae Rugby League oval on Sunday.
Sam put on an outstanding performance to win himself K500 man-of-the-match award plus a collared shirt from Mapai Transport.
In the earlier game, Mabey & Johnson Muruks thrashed Pagini Warriors 46-12 to send a signal to other teams that they mean business.
Bombers coach Boga Tau attributed their win to better ball control and playing a more coordinated football with tight defence and good attacking skills that completely shut out their opponents.
ìWe played better compared to last weekend and we are improving in our every game. The forwards and the backline displayed superb ball skills in all departments that saw us committing less mistakes and we stuck to our game plan,î Tau said.
Mioks coach Chris Itam blamed their loss on poor refereeing and said the referee had been inconsistent in many of his rulings
ìIím disappointed with him (referee) and congratulate the Bombers for their win.î
ìIím very disappointed with many of the refereeís ruling. I called on PNGRFL to appoint experience referees to control SP Cup matches, and to help to promote the code in PNG in future,î Itam said.
Toyota Mioks scored first through centre Iki Yallon in the corner to take a 4-0 lead but Bomber replied through centre Russ Kaupa Junior and never looked back. They led 18-4 at the break and Mioks came back strongly after the break but never threatened the Bombers throughout the second half.
Bombers piled on the points through Benson Joel and another try to winger Ene, and Kapu before replied with the consolation from five-eighth Nathan Anjo.
