Updated results lacking
FOR some of us who are trying to get election updates through the Electoral
Commission’s website, we find it annoying that the results are not regularly
updated. I find it disappointing that some of the results on the EC’s website
are 10 days old. A lot of funds have been put into the running of the elections
and the provision of information must be a priority area. Information on party
stands and progressive tallies are all outdated. The EC is supporting Karai and
FM100 to update people with election results but why can’t it update its own
website? This gives an impression that the commission is not fully playing its
roles and functions in dispersing information. Can the EC do something to update
results on the website? – David Kong, Madang
Congrats Mek Teine!
I WOULD like to congratulate the MP-elect for Kundiawa-Gembogl Joe Mek Teine.
The game has just begun and many will be watching your performance in the next
five years. I hope you will deliver the much needed goods and services to the
electorate. To the good people of Kundiawa-Gembogl, we cannot expect things to
happen overnight. We should be fair and reasonable in our expectation and allow
the MP to perform. On the same token, I would like to acknowledge the
contribution of the outgoing MP Mathew Numambo Siune and wish him well. –
John Umba Michael, NZ
Figures don’t add up
FOR the Enga regional vote count of the total allowable ballot papers counted in
the first count, there seemed to have been 21,830 votes extra than the total
counted for all the electorate as per the Electoral Commission website of July
19. The total counted for Kandep Open as reported is 29,585 votes, Kompian-Ambum
4,736, Lagaip-Porgera 16,457, Wabag Open 31,789 and Wapenamanda 14,143 which
gives a total of 96,710 for all the Open seats. However, the Enga regional seat
has been reported to have 118,540 votes, which is 21,830 votes more than the
total formal first votes counted for all the electorate. Can somebody explain
why this could be so? – Observer, Perth, Australia
Work with Abal
IT is about time Papua New Guinea gets good leaders who have strong leadership
qualities and good personal background. As such, the people of Wabag have given
the mandate to Sam Abal. I call on all losing candidates and their supporters to
work together with Abal to bring development and progress to Wabag. I
congratulate Abal for retaining his seat. – Kolen P Yakio, Port Moresby
Insensitive move by Tammur
NEWLY elected member for Kokopo Patrick Tammur made an insensitive move by
flying to Wewak onboard the Kumul. It is not an asset of NA but the people. It’s
sickening that politicians are abusing and misappropriating the people’s assets.
Tammur is joining up with NA, a party that has done nothing over the Moti affair
and playing politics with communication services in PNG. I hope this insensitive
move won’t be the first of many more to come, Tammur. – JC, Via email
Enough of the suffering
I WOULD like congratulate Sali Subam for winning the South Fly Open seat on
behalf of the tertiary students of Morehead LLG area. For many years we have
suffered from the corrupt practices of leaders. The people have given you their
mandate. – Jackie A Weni, Madang
People have woken up
I WOULD like to congratulate former speaker John Thomas Pundari for his win. The
people of Kompiam-Ambum have awaken from their slumber and made the right
decision to give Pundari their mandate. – Jack P Yange, Madang
West Papuans laud Parkop
I WOULD like to congratulate Powes Parkop for winning the NCD Regional seat on
behalf of my family and the West Papuan people in general. Your win was a win
democracy, freedom, the downtrodden and the suppressed. – Clemens Runawery,
Port Moresby
Rates were not justified
TELIKOM’S monopoly has caused lot of misery as its rates are very high. Now that
Digicel has entered the market, we have seen the rates charged by Telikom were
not justified. Telikom has been forced to lower its set-up kit from K125 to K25.
