COUNTRY Party parliamentary leader Party Jamie Maxtone-Graham has
retained his Anglimp/South Waghi seat in Western Highlands province.
Mr Maxtone-Graham polled 30,646 votes to retain his seat. Independent
candidate Jonathan Kumba polled 20,769 votes to finish second.
National Alliance candidate Pawa Wai finished third with 19,717 votes.
Mr Maxtone-Graham was declared winner by returning officer Gogme Kimin
around 5.10pm yesterday at the Kiminga counting centre.
He said he had a five-year plan in place to develop the district after
he was elected into parliament during the by-election in 2004 following
the death of former MP Paul Wai.
Meanwhile, Dei Open has a new Member and he is former MP Puri Ruing.
Mr Ruing, a PNG Party candidate, polled 15,894 votes to unseat sitting
member Melchior Pep who polled 12,527 and came third.
The runner-up is Roy Pena Roltinga after polling 15,221 votes.
He was proclaimed winner by returning officer Steven Korowa around
4.40pm yesterday at the Kiminga counting centre.
Meanwhile, counting for Tambul/Nebilyer and provincial seats continued
yesterday afternoon with the elimination round.
In the Tambul/Nebilyer seat, Philemon Was Korowi is leading with 13,016
votes, followed by Benjamin Poponawa with 12,574, while former MP Thomas
Niggins in third place with 12,217.
Sitting Member Mark Anis is on the fourth place with 10,579.
In the provincial seat, parliamentary leader for People’s Democratic
Movement Paias Wingti maintains his lead of 89,344 votes, followed by
Tom Olga (69,560), while deputy governor Wai Rapa is in the third spot
with 41,509 as of yesterday afternoon.
The elimination round for the provincial seat will start today.
