KAIRUKU-HIRI member-elect Paru Aihi has
vowed to fight corruption while promoting transparency, good governance
and high moral values in the delivery of Government services to his
electorate and Papua New Guinea as a whole.
Mr Aihi, a PNG Party candidate, polled 11,492 votes unseating former
deputy prime minister and Minister for Mining and Petroleum Sir Moi Avei,
who performed badly in the race to retain his seat.
The runner-up was another Central province businessman from Gaire
village, Kila Haoda, who collected 8,136 votes.
During his declaration as the MP-elect at the Murray Barracks counting
centre on Sunday, Mr Aihi promised the Kairuku-Hiri people a fair,
honest and transparent leadership during his term in office.
He thanked the people of Kairuku-Hiri for having confidence and electing
him while paying tribute to Sir Moi for his services.
As well, the new MP promised to do his part to ensure that all eligible
voters in the Kairuku-Hiri were enrolled to vote in the 2012 general
election, after complaining of many people being turned away during this
election because their names were not on the common roll.
Mr Aihi, a strong Christian and successful businessman, promised that he
would be fair in the allocation of financial and other resources in the
delivery of goods and services to all parts of his electorate.
He said the election victory was for the Kairuku-Hiri people.
