Teachers urged to return to work

TEACHERS in provinces that have completed counting for the election and have declared results must return to work immediately.
Chairman of the Teaching Services Commission (TSC) Michael Pearson is still very much concerned at the pace of counting in some provinces and also reports on delays.
He sympathised with the parents of children, who are missing out classes due to the non-availability of teachers, but said that the Government needed teachers to be part of the elections.
He said the quicker the counting could be done, the quicker teachers should resume duty.
By now all primary school teachers should have resumed duty whilst some secondary and high school teachers may still be involved in the counting process in some provinces.
Schools are now into their second week of third term and TSC had written a letter to the Electoral Commissioner to release secondary and high school teachers to go back to work for the sake of Grades 10 and 12 students, who will be sitting for their examinations in two months time.
Meanwhile, TSC has urged parents to be in touch with schools to find out what the situation was and also for principals to cover for teachers who are still taking part in the counting process..
