Mulungu is new MP for Margarima

NEW Generation party candidate Francis Potape Mulungu is the new MP for Komo Margarima seat in Southern Highlands province.
Margarima is the eight and last Open seat to be proclaimed in the province, while votes for the Regional seat are still being counted.
Mr Mulungu bested People’s National Congress party man Eno Tanda.
The Member-elect polled 15,416 votes to beat Mr Tanda (14,607).
Returning officer Vincent Atusa proclaimed Mr Mulungu as winner at 4:35pm yesterday at the Momei oval counting centre in Mendi.
Mr Mulungu, who said his victory was “for the elites of Komo Margarima”, will invite the 31 other losing candidates to help him develop the district.
He previously served as first secretary for Environment and Conservation Minister William Duma.

ESP people praised
EAST Sepik provincial police commander Chief Supt Leo Kabilo has commended the people of East Sepik for ensuring a trouble-free election in the province.
Supt Kabilo said despite minor hiccups relating to names not on the electoral roll and discrepancies during counting, the general law and order situation in the province was excellent.
He also praised security personnel, village councillors and churches for their contribution towards the elections.

Teacher irked over illegal deductions
A TEACHER claimed that a finance company was illegally deducting K160 from his salary without his knowledge.
John Rumba, who is blind, said the company was taking money from his salary even though he did not take any loan from them.
Mr Rumba said he submitted a loan for K1,000 but then withdrew it after learning that he would pay K600 in interest alone.
He said he informed the company to withdraw the loan application, but the company started deducting K160 every forth-night starting May 25.
He said he contacted the company, and was promised reimbursement, but this had not happened.
Mr Rumba is teaching at Mun Primary School, one of the remote schools in Dei district.
He reported the matter to police last Friday for an investigation.
