Parties jostle for Zurenuoc’s nod

By FRANK RAI and SAMPSON BONAI
THE battle over independent MP-elect for Finschhafen Open Theo Zurenuoc has taken another turn.
While the New Generation Party and the Peoples Progress party were yesterday trying to grab him as he arrived in Lae from Finschhafen, there were reports that the new MP was trying to align with the ruling National Alliance Party led by Sir Michael Somare.
A PPP team was at Voco Point to meet Mr Zurenuoc but he was whisked away by a Lae-based member of the family.
The PPP have been claiming Mr Zurenuoc since his election last week but it appears the new MP had gone over to Bart Philemon’s NGP team.
Meanwhile, Kabwum MP-elect and deputy leader of United Party Bob Dadae yesterday pledged his party’s loyalty to the National Alliance Party.
Mr Dadae said he had retained his seat while the party leader Bire Kimisopa had lost his Goroka seat and he preferred to take over the reigns as the new United Party leader and to align with Sir Michael to form the next government.
