Officials reinstated

FOUR senior PNG Defence Force officers sidelined or suspended over their alleged involvement in the Julian Moti affair last year have been re-instated.
The four are chief of staff Capt (Navy) Tom Ur, joint forces commander Col Vagi Oala, director of air operations Ron Hosea, and commander of air transport squadron Chester Berobero.
PNGDF commander Commodore Peter Ilau announced their reinstatement to members of the force last Friday, a source said.
Commodore Ilau confirmed to The National yesterday he had reinstated the officers. He said he did this following the advice from the State Solicitor and Solicitor General’s office.
He said he had sought advice from the two offices regarding powers of the defence council to revoke the appointment of the officers.
He said his reinstatement as commander by the National Court late last year quashed all decisions that were taken during his absence, including the defence council or the National Executive Council.
He said he could have reinstated the officers four months ago but waited for legal advices, sought independently from the PNGDF lawyer.
He said any decisions including the NEC decision No:263 were all quashed when he was re-appointed to his position.
