Souths go further up soccer ladder

By HENRY MORABANG
PRK Souths extended their lead by 13 points when they defeated PS United 2-1 in the Port Moresby men’s premier competition at the Bisini grounds at the weekend.
The Southern Highlands team are clear leaders with 45 points ahead of nearest rival University 32 points.

Skipper Andrew Lepani got the ball rolling for the Souths in the seventh minute before striker Frank Tulem added another in the 78th minute to put them beyond doubt against the Sepiks.
PS Ruts must lift themselves if they want to stay in the premiership race. The Ian Soweni-coached team is on fourth space with three more games, it would be a miracle for them to secure the final four spot.
Souths are unofficial minor premiers while University and Rapatona must win their remaining games to be included in the 2007 premiership race.
University started their campaign with a good 2-0 win over Defence and completed the double for the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Cosmos.
The weekend wasn’t good for Cosmos as they went down to unpredictable Verarve 3-1. The goal scorers for Verave were Tau Winnie, Enoch Tomo and Naime Kepi while Cosmos rallied on to score a consolation through skipper Junior Bonny.
On Sunday, Momase held their wantoks Guria to a scoreless draw and Rapatona proved their worth to easily beat B-Mobile.
Rapatona will face their real test as premiership contenders, or pretenders, when they take on rivals University next week.
Coach Robert Popat was satisfied with their win last weekend, saying that they would prepare for their double header next week against University.
The points ladder Souths 45, University 32, Rapatona 26, PS United 24, Defence 23, Cosmos 23, Verave 21, Momase 18, Guria 10, and B-Mobile 7.
