Thankful

Thanks to all my fathers
Thanks to all my mothers
Thanks to all my sisters and
Thanks to all my brothers
Thanks for all that I have
And all I ever will
Thanks
for all the dreams come true
Thanks
For allowing the goodness of me
To know the goodness of you
Thanks for all there is and
all there ever was
Thankful, thankful, thankful
To the Lord above
For the blessings of life and the
Gift of love

A grassroots lament

There they go knocking again
With the widest of silly grin
Teeth crimson with buai stain
Kambang powder on their goateed chin

Heavens! Like a flood, they’re rushing up here
Same sweet promises burning in our ears
City slickers, wondered they’ve come this far
Just to blurt they always care

Aiya! Shall we open the door
And answer these strangers’ call
For thirty years did we fall
On our sore knees begging for dole?

Aiya! The words sputtering
Out of the mouths, reminiscent
Of a long gone second rate magician
Spellbinding, boring, irritating

The calls of the wild beckoning.
Narapela trick?
Those bridges to be built of bricks
Those roads to be trod by callused feet ....(CONT’D)
Those tanks never a drop of rain did collect

No! I’m the master.
And you’re a mere servant, you hear
Where have you brought us these past years?
You steered us to a place called nowhere

Now its high time to make amends
Our small voices shall always reign
We the masters, you the servants
Your own political survival on us you depend

So clean up your act
Not an iota of time to be slack
Lift us from this degrading morass
That you have made in the first place
